At the service on the fourth Sunday of each month, all cash in the collected offering is given to a designated charity. Past recipients have included:

August 2011

Program for Assertive Community Treatment (PACT)

PACT is associated with New River Community Services; provides for support for individuals with long history of serious mental health issues. The total raised through our offering was $370.

July 2011

Court Appointed Special Advocates (CASA)

The National CASA Association is a network of 955 programs that are recruiting, training and supporting volunteers to represent the best interests of abused and neglected children in the courtroom and other settings. The total raised through our offering was $277.

Mid-South District 2011 Severe Storm Fund

Communities and families across the South were devastated by the storms and tornados of April 27th! Unitarian Universalist folks in Alabama, Mississippi, Georgia and Tennessee have major property damage and are reeling from the effects of the storms. Tuscaloosa, Alabama, was particularly hard hit, and a number of UU families there are without their homes. Mid-South District has established the 2011 Severe Storm Fund to assist Unitarian Universalist families and their communities as they repair their lives and properties after the tornado-filled storms. The total raised through our offering was $357.

April 2011

Humane Society of Montgomery County

The Humane Society of Montgomery County is a nonprofit (501-C3) organization devoted to public education and the welfare of domesticated animals. The HSMC shelter provides assistance in placing healthy adoptable animals from Montgomery County Virginia through referral services and/or housing. The shelter is a "No-Kill" shelter; therefore, all adoptable animals are housed until suitable families are found. The total raised through our offering was $411.

NAACP Youth Scholarship Fund

Founded in 1909, the NAACP is the nation's oldest and largest civil rights organization. From the ballot box to the classroom, the thousands of dedicated workers, organizers, leaders and members who make up the NAACP continue to fight for social justice for all Americans.The total raised through our offering was $313.

February 2011

New River Family Shelter

(Rescheduled from December 2010). The mission of the NRFS is to provide safe emergency and transitional shelter throughout the New River Valley connecting families with supportive services that empower them to make behavioral changes that promote self sufficiency and stability. The total raised through our offering was $492.05.

January 2011

Job Squad

The Job Squad provides labor to individuals within the UUC and wider community who need help doing home-related projects due to their illness or advanced age.

December 2010

New River Family Shelter

The mission of the NRFS is to provide safe emergency and transitional shelter throughout the New River Valley connecting families with supportive services that empower them to make behavioral changes that promote self sufficiency and stability. The service was snowed out, so the collection was moved to February 2011.

November 2010

Literacy Volunteers of the New River Valley

Located in Christiansburg, this organization provides training for volunteers who tutor those in need of English language instruction, as well as remedial reading support for other community members. We currently have several people in our Congregation who volunteer for this agency. The total raised through our offering was $545.

October 2010

Women’s Resource Center of the New River Valley

This organization provides women and families of the New River Valley with assistance in escaping domestic violence. Other services include supporting those who are victims of sexual assault, as well as providing a 24-hour Crisis Hotline, and Victim/Witness and education programs. Our Congregation has supported this facility very generously in the past, and we hope that we can continue to do so. The total raised through our offering was $820.05.

September 2010

Stop Hunger Now

Stop Hunger Now is an international hunger relief organization that coordinates the distribution of food and other life-saving aid around the world. The total raised through our offering was $441.91. Volunteers also participated in a meal packaging program for the benefit of Haiti Crisis Relief.
