Welcome from the Minister
We
welcome you to the Web site of the Unitarian Universalist Congregation
located in Blacksburg, VA. Our congregation was founded in 1956 and
is a member of the Unitarian Universalist Association of
Congregations (UUA).
We encourage you to spend some time
exploring these Web pages. Here you will learn who we are, the programs
and services that we offer, and the free and liberal beliefs we hold.
We have deep roots in the Jewish and Christian faiths as well as the
ideals that are fundamental to the core philosophy of our American
forebears.
Our doors are open to all people, regardless of their religious beliefs, political leanings, sexual orientation, or background. We believe that freedom of conscience is the core of true religion and that diversity of belief enlivens our congregation. As one of our forefathers noted, we do not have to think alike to love alike.
We encourage our
members and friends to combine faith and reason, heart and mind,
individuality and community. While we do not adhere to a creed or a
set of doctrines that have been handed down through the ages, we are
guided by the UUA covenant of Principles and Purposes and our congregation’s Guidelines for Right Relations. We
believe that the best witness to our convictions and values is found
in our actions and relationships.
In spring 2004, the Congregation voted to become a Welcoming Congregation. Click here for a history of our progression towards this goal.
This Web site offers
information about our how to find us, Sunday Services, our programs for children and youth, our
programs for adults, and our staff. If you can’t find the answer to your questions on this
Web site, please contact someone on our staff. Our goal is to provide
you with information about our congregation that will encourage you
to visit us and get to know us better.
Thank you for your
interest in our congregation and our way of the spirit. And again,
welcome!
The Reverend Christine Brownlie
