Reverend Christine Brownlie Biographical Sketch
Reverend Brownlie was born in Dearborn, Michigan. She grew up the Minneapolis, St. Paul area. After graduating from The New School for Social Research, she worked as a medical social worker in New York City, and then in health related jobs in South Bend, Indiana. During her years in N.Y.C. she was a involved with a group of young professionals that founded The Door, a multi-service agency for adolescents. She says that it is still in operation and doing good work, and she is deeply grateful to have played a role in its inception.
From 1984 through 1997, she was Director of Religious Education for children and youth at First Jefferson Church Unitarian Universalist in Fort Worth, Texas. In 1994 she entered Brite Divinity School (Texas Christian University), where she received her M. Div. Degree in 1997. After a one-year internship in Tuscaloosa, Alabama, she served for a year as Interim Minister in nearby Montgomery.
Wherever she has been, her community involvement has encompassed a broad range of activities, including leadership in the PTA, Meals on Wheels, the Youth Orchestra of Fort Worth, Cub Scouts, and Camp Fire Boys and Girls. She has also worked with number of peace and social justice organizations throughout her life. She has two adult sons, one living in Texas and the other in California.
On August 1, 1999, Rev. Christine Brownlie became the settled full-time minister at the Unitarian Universalist Fellowship of the New River Valley. (In 2003, the Congregation changed its name to the Unitarian Universalist Congregation.)
