Information on Current UUC Covenant Groups

If you want information about any of the groups, send a message to to CovGroups@uucnrv.org. Include the name of the group in the body of your message, and a contact person from that group will get back in touch with you.

  • The Anarchists covenant group always has an empty chair and welcomes new members. The group meets on the 1st and 3rd Sundays of the month from 7:00-8:30 PM, alternating between homes in Radford and Blacksburg. Members decide on the topic for each meeting. The group has discussed such diverse things as fathers, how we use our time, and chocolate. The members are governed by their own instincts.

  • The Spirit covenant group meets the first and third Wednesdays of the month in the library of the UUC Meeting House. Members usually choose a book on spirituality to discuss, although the group has also watched videos and discussed articles from magazines or the Web. Among the books that have been read are "The Power of Now," "The Four Agreements," "The Christian Agnostic," "The Eight Mindful Steps to Happiness," and "Where God Lives." The group has watched "What the Bleep Do We Know?" and a tape of John Shelby Spong.

  • The Eclectics covenant group meets on the second and fourth Tuesdays of each month in the homes of members from 7 to 8:30 or 9 p.m, depending on how many are in attendance.  The group follows the standard format for Small Group Ministry, which includes a UU related reading, Chalice lighting, check-in, and discussion of a theme or subject decided on by the group at the preceding meeting.  They close with a second reading. The group presently has 11 members, but some are not able to attend every meeting. The Eclectics are open to welcoming new members with the understanding that the group is committed to breaking into two groups if it gets to the point of having more than 12 attending on a regular basis. Past subjects for discussion have included faith, death, our relationship to the earth, abundance, books that have affected our lives, end-of-life preparation, and a myriad of others.

  • There are currently two Parents of Young Children covenant groups. One group meets every third Saturday from 5:30–8 p.m. at the UUC Meeting House or at a member’s home. The other parent group meets every other Saturday at a member’s home from 4:30–7:00 p.m. Each group starts with a potluck that includes the children.   The children then move to another part of the home or building with paid childcare.

  • The Knitters covenant group (for women) meets on the third Tuesday of the month from 7:00 to 9:30 p.m. (7:00 to 7:30 p.m: extra help with knitting). Learn to knit while discussing women’s issues. Meeting place varies.
