Small Groups Build Connections

The groups listed on this page are open to all members and friends of the Congregation. They focus particular interests and topics, and they may meet for a few weeks or several months. Every month these are listed on the Congregation’s calendar, and there are often associated articles in the UUC newsletter, which are generally reproduced on the online calendar at uucnrv.org. If you want further information, contact the administrator and be sure to include the name of the group in which you are interested.

Teen Youth Group: The Young Religious Unitarian Universalists, or YRUU, is for high-school-aged young adults. The goup, which operates from the model of youth empowerment, meets at least three or four times monthly on Sundays at 6 p.m. at the UUC Meeting House. The YRUU does not meet over the summer. For further information, see the YRUU Home Page.

The UUC Choir sings two Sundays a month from September through May. Weekly rehearsals are on Wednesdays, 7:30 to 9:00 p.m. The choir will not meet during the summer. The first rehearsal for the 09–10 year is August 19.

Aging as a Spiritual Journey: The “Sages” meet every first and third Mondays at 2:00 p.m. in the Clara Barton RE room at the UUC Meeting House. We always have a lively discussion on topics of interest to older adults (that means everything in the universe). Any adult of any age is welcome to join us.

Circle Suppers are a part of UU congregational offerings throughout the United States. Circle Suppers have been part of our Fellowship/Congregation since being introduced in about 1974. Over the years it has taken many forms in our Congregation. This year, interested individuals and/or couples will sign up for dates on the last weekend of each month for September through May.

EarthSpirit Sisters: a spirit-filled community of sisters, supporting each other with love and respect; creating safe, sacred spaces in which we share rituals and celebrate milestones. We honor our sisters with love and trust as we share our journeys and seek our truths. We gather to create sacred space for ritual work and activities. We are affiliated with the Unitarian Universalist Congregation of Blacksburg, Virginia, and we often hold rituals, workshops, and seasonal celebrations at the UUC in Elarth Hall. However, it is not necessary to belong to the UUC in order to attend EarthSpirit Sisters meetings and rituals; our membership is open to all who seek sisterhood and desire a deeper understanding and spiritual awareness of ancient Earth-centered traditions. Check the newsletter or the online calendar for dates and place.

Women’s Breakfast: Monday mornings at 7 a.m. at the Easy Chair (University Mall, Blacksburg). Start the week right!

UUC Women’s Lunch: A drop-in Women’s Lunch gathering occurs on the first and third Friday’s of each month. They take place at noon with locations specified in the newsletter and in the Web Calendar.

A Yoga group meets on Wednesdays 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. Yoga basically involves breathing and stretching in a variety of postures. People do Yoga today for various reasons: relaxation, de-stressing, toning, healing, meditation, and a general sense of well being. Try it — it’s easy, relaxing, enjoyable. You'll leave feeling glad you came and with more energy for whatever you need to do.
