Stewardship

Each year in early spring, UUC holds its annual Stewardship pledge drive whereby members and friends are asked to make a monetary pledge to support the mission and vision of the congregation. UUC receives no outside funding and relies solely on the generosity of congregants for support. As we move from a small-sized congregation (pastoral) to a larger-sized one (program), stewardship is evolving into a year-round process.

Stewardship 2017–2018

Stewardship Inspire. Create. Transform.

Inspire spiritual and ethical growth.
Create compassionate community.
Transform our community and the world through courageous love.

Stewardship 2017 kicked off with a special service on Sunday, March 26. All members and friends were asked to submit their pledges by April 23  so that our Finance Committee could plan the upcoming year's budget. At the service on Sunday, April 23, our beloved community celebrated our commitment, and an all-congregation "Sundae Sunday" was held following the service.

Our stewardship materials include our Stewardship brochure, Frequently Asked Questions, an explanation of Our Ministries, Debt Information, information on Supporting Our Staff, and a pledge card. Extra packets are available at UUC or by contacting our Administrator.

At any time during the year, you can also make a pledge using our simple online form.

For more information and to listen to testimonials from our members, view our Stewardship webpage. Login info required.

How Much Should I Give?

How much one donates is a very personal decision. The Unitarian Universalist Association recommends a donation of from 2-5% of one's adjusted annual income. If your circumstances make this unrealistic, consider making it a goal to work toward. In the end it is not so much about “raising money” as it is creating a community of generosity where lives are literally transformed, where children learn our values, where we each find support in all areas of our lives, and where our values spread out into the larger world of social service and social justice. Give as generously as you can, experience the sense of joy and well-being that comes from creating and participating in the abundance of UUC.

Annual Goods and Services Auction

AuctionThe annual Goods and Services Auction, held in the Fall of each year, is UUC’s biggest fundraiser of the year and always a night to remember. Each auction has a fun theme, and many come dressed in costume. We have both a silent auction and a live auction that include artwork, jewelry, fabulous dinners, vacation rentals, home repair, mystery nights, massages, and much more. For the hungry and thirsty, there is plenty of delicious food and drink. This is an adult-only event, and a separate children's party and childcare for the very young are provided.  Learn more.

If you are interested in volunteering for the Auction Committee, please contact Linda Powers.

Selling on eBay

If you have possessions such as antiques, old jewelry, coins, shoes, photography equipment, etc. that you no longer use, consider donating them to the UUC for sale on eBay through our dealer, AJ’s Antiques and Art Gallery in Christiansburg. AJ will research the value of each item and post it on eBay as long as the value of the item exceeds $10. If the value is lower, items will be bundled to achieve that $10 cutoff. Once the item sells, you will receive a receipt for the amount that can be used as a charitable-gift tax deduction. Bring your items on a Sunday and leave them with our Administrator. For more information or to have items picked up at your home, contact Linda Powers.
