Fourth Sunday Collections
At the service on the fourth Sunday of each month, all cash in the collected offering goes to a designated charity. Below are the intended recipients of collections for the 2011/2012 church year.
September 2011
Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Program (MCEAP)
The Montgomery County Emergency Assistance Program assists families and individuals in immediate, temporary, and emergency situations. The total raised through our offering was $553.75.
October 2011
Free Clinic of the New River Valley
The Free Clinic of the New River Valley is a non-profit 501(C)(3) organization that is committed to providing quality healthcare and dental services to people who lack insurance and cannot afford health care. The total raised through our offering was $735.51.
November 2011
Guest at Your Table is an annual tradition in which congregation members take home a box featuring people that UUSC has worked with recently. These people are your “guests,” and you are asked to share your blessings with them each meal by putting your spare change in the box. NOTE: We we be collecting for Guest at Your Table each Sunday in November and not just the Fourth Sunday. The total credited to UUC through donations and matching contributions was $2732.48!
December 2011
To Our House provides free thermal shelter for single, homeless men from Nov 5, 2011, to Mar 31, 2012. The total raised through our offering was $177.
January 2012
Head Start provides comprehensive developmental services to eligible pre-school children and their families. Family-focused services emphasize education, nutrition, parent involvement, social services and preventative health care. The total raised through our offering was $610.
February 2012
The Job Squad provides labor to individuals within the UUC and wider community who need help doing home-related projects due to their illness or advanced age. The total raised through our offering was $725.
March 2012
Humane Society of Montgomery County
The Humane Society of Montgomery County is a nonprofit (501-C3) organization devoted to public education and the welfare of domesticated animals. The HSMC shelter provides assistance in placing healthy adoptable animals from Montgomery County Virginia through referral services and/or housing. The shelter is a "No-Kill" shelter; therefore, all adoptable animals are housed until suitable families are found. The total raised through our offeriing was $468.50.

Founded in 1909, the NAACP is the nation's oldest and largest civil rights organization. From the ballot box to the classroom, the thousands of dedicated workers, organizers, leaders and members who make up the NAACP continue to fight for social justice for all Americans. Donations will be given to the NAACP Scholarship Fund to provide scholarships for outstanding students.

Friends of the Blacksburg Farmers Market
Friends of the Farmers Market is a voluntary group of citizens who provide support to the Blacksburg Farmers Market and local community through development, educational programs about benefits of locally grown food and sustainable agriculture, as well as special events that enhance its role as a community gathering place within the region. The Friends recently received a grant which enables vendors to accept food stamps. Our donations will provide matching funds which will enable food stamp recipients to purchase double the amount of food that the value of their food stamps would allow.

Interfaith Food Pantry: The Interfaith Food Pantry offers basic food supplies, once a month, to low-income Blacksburg residents or those in emergency situations, including homeless individuals and families.
